Today’s class discussion regarding the JcPenny SEO fiasco got me thinking about what other kinds of similar things are out there. As I went on a hunt, I learned that Microsoft has also done some embellishing with Bing and once Google found out, they laid down some traps including embedding its results with nonsense searches, which then showed up in Bing. (Read more here) Coming from a PR standpoint this is unethical and I do not agree, but the advertising side of me says it is ethical because taking the time to “hack” the system is a genius move, I do however see the bad side to it – it is against the Google policies. If I were in this position as a professional I would stray away from it, but it is interesting to read about!
